Towel

You know you are getting old when:

You walk into your walk in closet for a towel and come out with your clothes for the day. But the kicker is you don't even realize what you have done until you get out of the shower and reach for your towel.

Not that I did the above recently or anything.....la la la....nope, not me.

Lunch with the Bunny

Saturday morning the local Women's Club sponsored a lunch with the Easter Bunny. As we walked in up the steps guess who was standing at the top for pictures:

There were a few games for the kids to play and then there was a huge line for face painting. Little S wanted a lightning bolt, but I asked him to get something Easterish. He settled with a bunny.
Later as we were eating one of his friends came and sat down beside us. He had gotten the lightening bolt. Little S made a point of telling me that "D" was allowed to get a lightening bolt. When he finished going on about how I 'made' him get something Easterish, "D's" mom (God love her) let Little S know that the only reason he got a lightening bolt is because she wasn't with him in line or he would have gotten something else....hehehe. Chalk one up for the mom team!

After he was done eating he got to sit with the Bunny. He got a stuffed duck and a packet with a few pieces of candy, a bunny cookie from Eat 'N Park, free admission to the Fun Zone and a gift certificate for a free personal pizza at the local pizzeria.

After we were done there, we headed over to the lawn behind the bank where the local Kiwanis set up an Easter Egg hunt for the kids. They divided the sections up by age groups, through out boxes of candy on the lawn and 3 eggs in each section. If you found an egg you got an additional prize. Little S didn't find an egg but he did get a bag full of candy.
He had a blast and Hubby and I enjoyed watching him be so happy and have so much fun and delight in his eyes.

RAOK

Today is my sweet friend Shannon's birthday. Please click here to go wish her a Happy Birthday --> Shannon

Happy Birthday Shannon! I hope I find many opportunities to do RAOK's on your behalf today!

This year is one of those big birthdays. The one I am so dreading, 40.

She only asks one thing of her friends and family this year for her birthday - RAOK's. What the heck is a RAOK? Random Act Of Kindness.

So check back here later today to see what 'gift' (aka RAOK) I gave her today.

Also, check out her blog to see what she has done as well as what others have done on her behalf. You'll have to check in the comments for what others have done.

Have a great day and don't forget to check back later.

** Update**

On my way to work every morning I stop at out local convenience store and buy a large soda for the day. For the month of March they are offering a bag of Cheetos and any size soda for $1. So after paying for my combo and a newspaper, I handed the clerk another dollar and told her to pay for the next person that comes in for a combo. The look on her face was priceless. She was in shock and kept saying how nice that was for someone to do that. I just smiled and walked away.

Thanks Shannon for asking us to participate. It really started my day out the right way today!

A Night Out

Hubby and I were invited out to the local volunteer fire companies yearly Dinner/Dance and Fundraiser Saturday night.

We had a really nice evening out. Our one friend was the DJ for the evening. They had a ton of door prizes that were donated by the local businesses and you could also buy raffle tickets for an overnight at the Radisson. And of course a 50/50 raffle. I won a packet with a fire department t-shirt, a keyring bottle opener and a dozen wings.

For a while hubby had been wanting to buy a visor for when he was golfing. I told him that was ridiculous. He is balding and so he shaves his head. If he had a visor he would look pretty silly after golfing with a bog white ring around his red sunburned head. So while hubby was in Disney he was looking everywhere for a hat like this:

Unsuccessful there, he was able to find one at the local golf shop here at home and much to my dismay, wears it all of the time.
When we got ready to leave Saturday, he went out to the car ahead of me. When I walked out he was sitting in the drivers seat with this thing on his head. I was not impressed and made him take it off and leave it in the car.
One of the games they played that evening was called Scavenger Hunt Chairs. Basically, the DJ called out an item and those seated in the chairs had to search the audience for the item, run back to the emcee with the item and sit back down. After each item was called a chair was removed so the last person back would be out. It was a neat concept and we all had a blast.
Some of the items were simple such as Chevy car keys, lip gloss/lip stick/chap stick, any type of membership card.
Some were a little tricky like a sock with a hole in it. People were literally taking peoples socks off of them (with holes in them) and running them back to the emcee. If you think about it every sock has a hole in it, if it didn't you wouldn't be able to get your foot in it. No one thought of that and they were actually finding socks with holes in them.
Then they asked for a hat. Well being that it was a dinner not a lot of people had hats. Since we were parked right outside of the door hubby ran out to the car to get his 'hair hat' to give to one of the participants.
After they were done with it, hubby put it on his head. I just shook my head and pretended that I didn't know him....lol Well it wasn't long until some at the table realized he had an audience of his own. There was a table of older (70-80 yr old) ladies behind us. They kept looking at him every time he would move the hat in the slightest they would laugh. They couldn't figure out if it was real or fake. It was hilarious watching them watch him.
At the end of the night, they concluded that it wasn't real and one of them approached him, asked him to take his hat off and she started rubbing his bald head. They loved it and we all started laughing.
We had a great time and I think hubby made the older ladies night.

Reading Class

Early last week I had the privilege of going to Little S’s class and helping with Read Across America Week. (It was actually the previous week, but due to the fire at the school they had to move it back)

When I first got there Mrs. E had me sit over in the reading corner and listen to the kids read to me from their book box. It was very eye opening listening and watching the children read. They each picked a different book and I heard so many stories. She does not have the parents own child read to them but I get to listen to Little S read each night.

I did that for about 15-20 minutes and then Little S had packed one of his favorite books in his back pack that morning for me to read to his class. He recently bought a book with some nursery rhymes in it and that is the one he chose.

I had an absolute blast reading to the kids and letting them fill in here and there since most of them knew the words. There were a few rhymes in there though that neither I nor the teacher had heard before. She even grabbed her Mother Goose book and they weren’t in there.

One was:
Higgledy, piggledy, pop!
The dog has eaten the mop;
The pig's in a hurry,
The cat's in a flurry,
Higgledy, piggledy, pop!

Another was:
I had a little nut tree
And nothing would it bear
But a silver nutmeg and a golden pear.

The King of Spain's daughter came to visit me,
And all for the sake of my little nut tree.

I skipped over water,
I danced over sea,
And all the birds in the air couldn't catch me.

Have you ever heard either of these?

The most eye opening part of my being there was when the kids read to me. I was never quite sure Little S was reading up to speed and I want him to love to read so I push him a little harder with reading. Let me just say that I am proud of how well he reads. I found out from the teacher that he is one of the top readers in his class. Yeah Little S!

However I was a little saddened at some of the other kids reading abilities. I understand it is kindergarten and I hope that perhaps they didn't have any type of preschool and they will catch up. But one kid in particular I can't get out of my mind. He memorized the whole book so that he could "read" it. I stopped him at one point as he read the wrong word, so I thought, but when I asked him to sound it out, he didn't have the first clue as to how to do that. He couldn't even tell me what the letter 'a' was when I asked him. My heart just breaks for him and I so wish I could help him learn to read.

Other than that I had a blast and can't wait to go back again!

Rain

On the way into church this morning Little S noticed all of the worms on the pavement. His wise words:

"Mum, I think we went to sleep last night and it rained worms while we were sleeping!"

He cracks me up at how serious he is.

I have to admit though there were a ton of worms out there. It was hard to walk across the parking lot without stepping on one. Even the guest pastor commented on all of the worms that were out there.

Chaos

To say that the last 2 weeks were a bit chaotic may be an understatement. I have been to the hospital more times in the last two weeks that I have in the past two years. I am hoping that we steer clear for another two years.

Thankfully Hubby is doing great. He is home and back to work on light duty until next week. They did not have to put in a stent.

I am so thankful and blessed for all of my family and friends and all of the blessings that they have poured out on us through all of this. I have discovered that I have more people that I can rely on than I even imagined. So many people were ready at the drop of a hat to take care of what ever need I/we had at the moment. It didn't matter if it was as simple as getting my kids on/off the bus, taking them for a few hours and getting them dinner, or as complex as having to drag mine along with them to their own appointments. I was never at a loss of having someone there to help me.

The most important act last week though had to be the ones that stopped what they were doing and said a prayer for us, for the doctors, for the whole situation. I can't even begin to express our thankfulness for this. I know of at least 6 churches that were praying for us as well as all of my many friends. Many of whom relied on tweets and facebook updates to know how to pray.

I truly believe in the power of prayer. The first reports we got back from the doctors regarding the condition of hubby's heart were a little scary to us. Once he was transferred to Pittsburgh and they did the heart catherization, the results were so much different.

Some have suggested that the initial readings were false readings. That perhaps he moved or something else went awry. Hubby swears he never moved. I believe that God's hand was working in all of this. I believe that all of those prayers offered up on his behalf changed everything. And for that I am thankful.

You can choose to believe what you want, but I know what my God can do. I love this quote:

"Don't tell God how big your problems is. Tell your problem how big God is." -Owen Orr

Thank you again,
Stacy
