Wednesday Why?

I haven't done this in a while, but thought of this the other day and couldn't wait to ask.

Do you know how you got your first & middle names? Are they significant for any reason?

Do you have a nickname? How did you get it?

What about your kids, did you name them for any one or situation? Or their nicknames?

I will have to ask my mum about my names and see what she comes up with. Then I'll let you know.

My first name is Jordan, uncommon for a girl my age, my mom was over duw and watching the movie "the great gatsby" in the opening scene, a woman says "let me intorduce you to my cousin, Jordan" and a dark haired woman appears. My mom yelled "that's it! That's the name!"

Rebekah Lynn- My mom wanted a Bible name and liked how "Rebekah" was spelled. My middle name is my mom's middle name (it is also my mother-in-law and my father-in-law's middle name).

In the baby mode we have a girl name that we know we will use if we have a girl (we are going to start trying come early spring 2010). it will be a combo name of a student that Matt taught with Lynn in it as well as the middle name will be the first name of a dear cousin. We also have a few boy names that have family significance! Can't wait to find out which one we use in a year or so!

I was named for my paternal grandmother who died when my dad was ten (Mary) & my mother because Dad thought it sounded good together (Elizabeth).
My only nickname has been Meg, which is my intials.
My oldest is Robert Dale III, so obviously it's a family thing (& he's thinking about going for the 4th once he gets around to that), & the youngest, Samuel Christopher, was named for my uncle & husband; Jessica Heather was a compromise- I wanted Melissa after my best friend growing up, but ex-hubby wouldn't go for it. The show "Murder She Wrote" was my favorite at the time, so I threw that out as a suggestion & he agreed, then chose the middle name.

I have no idea how I got my name. I don't think that my mother had any real reason for naming me what she did. She sure didn't give any thought to our middle names since all of us girls have the same one, Ann.

My parents decided before I was born that my name would be Megan Elizabeth. As soon as my dad took one look at me, he decided I looked more like a Jennifer Kay.

My oldest son has two middle names - Matthew Robert Ryan. I named him Matthew because it was biblical and Robert & Ryan because those are the names of my father and brothers.

I gave my husband free reign to name our 2nd son - he named him Garrett Gene. Gary is my father-in-law's name and Gene is Trav's middle name.

What a neat post - I love hearing other people's stories about this kind of thing, too!
